Mobilization can bring enablement, innovation and transformation to an industry or business. Out of these three, transformation is a very rare process. But when it happens it can make a quantum leap. Zipcar is an example of a transformation triggered by mobility in the car rental business. Mobility opens up new areas to explore and new opportunities to innovate.

Last week I went to IKEA to buy a dining table and I was given few pieces of wood and some screws in a rectangular box. That was my dining table. The magic happens after I read the instruction manual that comes with the box. After re-reading some instructions and sometimes using trial and error method I was able to make my own dining table! What if I could just scan a bar code in my mobile device and see a 3D visual representation of the entire assembly on my device? Have you ever bought a bike in US? Again a bike comes in a box. Either you can pay extra 10 bucks to get it as a bike or get the instruction manual and build it yourself. If I could see the instructions in visual form when I bought a bike for my daughter, I could have saved some of the hours sitting in my garage, or better I could have just gave my mobile device to my daughter and asked her to build herself!

Visual representation can play key role in the areas of accurate and visual technical publications, manufacturing, interactive training, marketing communications, service and other product documents. Take any example of any product that requires communication from the manufacturer to the consumer, all or most of the home improvement products in the market that can leverage this technology.  And if we replace all of the instruction manuals in the world, we will save many trees, reduce carbon footprint and contribute to a sustainable future for next generation.

SAP visual enterprise fosters a visual communication model with use of graphics and interactive content. It improves the communication by incorporating visual elements that will eliminate the need for intermediate discussion. It saves time and money and preserves our environment all the while making high impact content readily accessible and re-usable. A picture is worth a thousand words. And in this case, a picture is worth a thousand trees and thousands of human hours.

If you look at oil and gas industry, animated content for pressure drilling has made a significant improvement in the quality of communication. SAP visual enterprise will help these industries take another step forward in communicating to their endusers in an advanced and effective manner. SAP suit of visual enterprise contains solutions; visual enterprise access, visual enterprise author, visual enterprise generator and visual enterprise viewer and will help transform industries like aerospace, automobile, oil and gas..

It is a great opportunity to know more about this technology by attending a collaborative effort by SAP and SAPInsider which is coming up at Las Vegas in March. Don’t miss this combination of four events at one location – Logistics and SCM 2013, PLM 2013, Manufacturing 2013 and Procurement 2013.
