Bursting of reports is the ability to publish and schedule reports according to one’s profile.  For example, if I am a Medical Sales Rep for a particular territory and want to receive a daily report on the number of calls I have made to the Physicians, it would be very beneficial if I can receive a report in my inbox daily that only contains results for my territory.  This would reduce the manual effort of running a report each day and entering in the parameters.

The entire process of bursting can be divided into several parts:

1)     -  First is to create a simple cross-tabbed report which is the report that gets bursted.

2)     -  Next is to set up the Publication.

We can create a publication either in CMC or Infoview.

Below are the Steps to create a Publication:

Right click on the folder where you want to create the publication.

Select New -> Publication

Name the publication

Select the created Web intelligence document as the Source Document

The document Recipient can be either Enterprise or Dynamic.

Enterprise Recipients are those who are Users in the BO Enterprise.

For your Publication to work for the Enterprise Recipients, Profiles should be set.

Profiles should have a Profile Target and Profile value.

Profile Target is nothing but the Universe object based on which your report should get split.

Profile Values are nothing but the Users/Groups to whom the Profile Values should be set based on the universe object which is set as Profile Target.

Dynamic Recipients are those whose are external users outside your BO Enterprise. Their email id have to be used instead.

The common fields are:

1) Recipient ID (Mandatory identifier field)

2) Full Name (User Name)

3) Email (Email ID of user)

Personalization can be done in Publication -> Filter -> mapping Report fields with Dynamic Recipient fields.

This personalization of data is for the report to get delivered to the right user.

In the Format section we can select the type of format we want to distribute the report in.

There are a variety of destinations that we can burst the report to.  The majorly used options are Business Objects Inbox and Email.

Recurrence can be set as how it is set while scheduling webi reports.
