Additional Question & Answer (answers provided by SAP):

Q:  Are filters dependent upon already existing filters

ie – if i select a Sales Org, will it/can it  only show me divisions within that sales org?

A:  Within filter panel you can select different filter values and combine them. If one filter is already defined in query designer, you are able to change the values with filter panel in design studio runtime.

Q:  If an info object has a lot  of single values, it takes a long time for the list to come up in WAD/BEx web, is this issue fixed in Design Studio?

A: not aware of this issue in Design Studio

Q:  What are the new chart types that came with 1.1

A:  The following new Chart Types are planned for release 1.1:

  • Column combination chart
  • Bar combination chart
  • Waterfall chart
  • Stack waterfall chart

Q:  Any system process as when dashboard is generating there is a limit of 2gb of system process as like this anything to Design Studio ?

A:  Design Studio is a 32 bit program, so in general a 32-bit program has the limitation of 2 GB of system processes.  Design Studio has Java engine, so administration of Java engine requires also some processes.  So the real effective usable processes for Design Studio could be around 1.5 to 1.6 GB.

Q:  In WAD, we can publish to a portal role.  Will this be available in Design Studio?

A: With Design Studio release 1.0, you can achieve that with the PIT (portal integration Kit).

With Design Studio 1.1, we are going to deliver the NetWeaver BW as platform option. There you will be able to save Design Studio application directly on BW. From there you can publish Design Studio app like WAD to a portal role.

More Design Studio 1.1 features will be covered in the next ASUG Webcasts on Design Studio:

      Hi Tammy,

      Good job and good news.

IMHO, big release cycle( 3 month), it's too long and not effective. DS grow by functional point of view.

More appropriate approach in A-office,  one month, one patch.

Does in sp2 will be solved problems with bex variables?

I agree with Mikhail. I think there is a long time gap between release cycles. Also, I have been trying to implement a cascading filter on a HANA analytic view. I just found out, after trying for a few weeks, that it cannot be implemented on HANA views. Another thing that really concerns me is that, there is no option for labels. The only way to see values is to rollover a chart. It will be very useful to have a charts with percentages and values (as in Dashboards).

I think its a better option to work more on HANA based analysis seeing as how that will most definitely be the future of BI systems. I like design studio because it allows us to create apps on desktop and mobile much faster and gives flexibility to implement on-click mechanisms.

Also, do you know where I can email suggestions and also possibly sign up for beta testing?

I believe if you are a customer you can contact your SAP account executive to sign up for beta testing.

If you are a partner you should have an SAP partner point of contact to reach out for beta testing.

So far I don't think there is an Idea Place for this.

Tammy and Others: I have built a small reporting app using design studio that uses BW as data source. Where do I deploy the application to ( BI4 Launch pad) or can I deploy it in SAP  Portal. Any inputs on steps and preferred deployment optioins would be greatly helpful - thanks!

I am running on DS 1.0 SP2 and BW 7.3 - I see above that from 1.1 DS you can deploy to SAP portal - how is this done in DS 1.0 ? Please advise. Thanks.
