The editors of CGT Magazine asked SAP to contribute an article to the most recent issue in a monthly section called “Between the Lines.”  Between the Lines appears inside the back cover of every issue and features an interview with an industry executive or industry leader on a topic that corresponds with the overall editorial theme of that issue. 

In this most recent issue, Albert Gufanti, publisher of CGT Magazine conducts and interview with SAP on the challenges facing consumer products companies in 2013 and beyond.  In the article we touch on what we see as key challenges for the industry, including ongoing global economic uncertainty, rising prices and increasing demand for diminishing resources, and the increasing power of the connected consumer.

To address these challenges we propose that, while sustaining profitable growth through winning new consumers and launching innovative products remains as important as ever, new innovations enabling the real-time consumer driven enterprise can and will help consumer products companies identify readily available growth opportunities by establishing and serving the needs of increasingly refined consumer segments without corresponding increases in cost-to-serve.

The underlying enabler of these opportunities is data.  But not simply data availability.  Data availability combined with recent technology innovations such as SAP Demand Signal Management and the SAP HANA Platform integrated with business process solutions such as those highlighted with the recent announcement of SAP Suite on HANA will give IT departments the flexibility, scalability and availability they need to enable the real-time consumer driven enterprise.
