I am currently attending the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. Besides many interesting presentations and fruitful discussions, this years keynote is noteworthy. Fernanda Viegas from Google gave an interesting talk on data visualization. She presented her research results and showed various applications of IBMs Many Eyes – a platform for data visualization. This tool is really interesting for understanding large amounts of data better and for playing around to get an impression. Make sense of Obamas inauguration speech, visualized as a word tree or an analysis of who donated money to Obama. There are also intersting applications for car usage on highway vs city. Many Eyes also helps you find out where all the lumberjacks and programmer live in Germany.
