I recently had a chance to give a presentation in a webinar hosted by Realcomm and delivered to the commercial real estate community. This was a great opportunity to get SAP Real Estate some additional exposure as well as gain insight into what other solution providers are doing and thinking in this space. I was intrigued at the message of some of the other presentations. NOI Strategies is involved in system selections for commercial real estate companies and regularly reinforced some of the same messages that SAP delivers around integration, beyond ERP solutions with mobile and analytics, and managing big data. Yardi – the company thought to be the leader in commercial real estate niche solutions is betting their future on a completely hosted, or cloud solution. While this may work for the smaller companies I believe the SAP hybrid approach – on premise, cloud solution will be a much better strategy for the commercial real estate industry; primarily because of the conservative nature of this industry when it comes to technology. What are your thoughts on the commercial real estate industry approach to a cloud strategy? The interesting question presented to me by the moderator of “Why SAP ERP for commercial real estate” really allowed me to represent to this audience our strong position. My response was that while most commercial real estate companies are still in a hold pattern for their core ERP solution most if not all of them still see the value of having a single integrated solution as a base, and SAP offers beyond ERP solutions that can help companies now. I am curious what others think about the role of an integrated ERP solution in commercial real estate?
