In a previous post, I talked to Byron Banks about high level trends in enterprise information management. At SAPPHIRE NOW in Madrid, I had the opportunity to drill into one of those key areas — information governance — with Bill Rojas, Sr. Product Marketing Manager for one of my favorite EIM products, SAP Information Steward.

Poor data quality is one of the biggest reasons business intelligence projects fails, but fixing it is not a technical problem, it’s a business problem. In particular, fixing data integration and quality issues requires collaboration between IT and the business. SAP Information Steward uses analytics to track and improve the quality of analytics systems, and facilitates better data ownership and governance.

This seven-minute discussion covers topic including:

  • Why tools like this are an essential part of every analytics deployment
  • Why they aren’t currently used as much as they perhaps should be
  • A demonstration of SAP Information Steward including the business benefits of impact analysis and data lineage

    Thanks Timo and thanks Bill,

a great and comprehensive insight into capabilities of SAP Information Steward and what customer problems are addressed and solved with that solution.

Customers like Alliander and Merck had presentations at SAPPHIRE and TechEd Madrid as well showing how they embeded SAP Information Steward into their overall Information Governance landscape. Linked to their operational systems like SAP CRM or integrated into their SAP MDG solutions.

So at the end, Information Steward is important everywhere, where your organization is storing, using, moving or analyzing data; be it part of your data modeling environment, your ETL process, at real-time data entry, your Data Warehouse, or in your SAP HANA database or application… You want to get insight and confidence in the data used!

    Niels
