I just returned from the fall meeting of the Computer Applications Technology Committee (CATC) of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) in Burlington, Ontario. The overall theme of the meeting was Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) in the steel industry. ArecelorMittal Dofasco hosted the meeting and they did a great job of discussing their MES project that they worked on with PSI Metals (a key SAP partner in the metals industry). Two important points, as with most big technology focused projects are to control scope and have senior management involvement throughout the project. It’s a great story!
