Loading small batches of master data–and maintaining governance
Here’s the trouble with information governance: governance requires enforceable policies for key master data elements. Good. Fabulous. But *sometimes* the business perceives that enforcing these policies takes too much time. Now, what some of your ingenious data creators will do—when time is of the essence–is try to find ways around the information governance policies.
What we need to do is to give the business tools to load small batches of data (creating 20 suppliers at once, for example) very quickly, while still enforcing all of the relevant information governance policies.
One way to do this is with an Excel upload into Master Data Governance. I bet you didn’t know you could do that. Lars Reuter has created a Code Exchange piece to do just that. There are two major benefits:
- Enter small batches of suppliers quickly into an Excel spreadsheet and submit.
- All relevant Master Data Governance policies are still executed and enforced.
Sounds like the best of both worlds to me!

Not sure why, but none of the links work for me...

Hello Ina,
Looks like after the migration to Code Exchange 2.0 the project excel2mdg no longer exists... Are you able to open it from your side?
Thanks,
Boris
I'll have to call in Lars Rueter on this one, as he created the Code Exchange project. Lars?
