Transports
In this document, I will explain about the transports.
- Transports help in moving the structure from one system to another system
- Transport request is created in transaction code SE01
Note: With transports, we can move only structure but not data
Steps to create transport request number:
- Go to SE01
- Click on ‘Create’ icon
- Select ‘Workbench Request’ radio button (we can select any one of the following radio buttons depending on the situation)
- Customizing Request
- Workbench Request
- Click on ‘Continue’
- Give short description
- Click on ‘Save’
Note: Every transport request number will come with a sub-task
Steps to assign structures to a transport request number:
- Go to tcode RSA1
- Go to ‘Transport Connections’ section
- Search for the required object (with technical name)
- Drag the object to the right side window
- Select any one of the grouping techniques from the drop down
- Only necessary objects
- In data flow before
- In data flow afterwards
- In data flow before and afterwards
- Give the collection mode as ‘Collect Automatically’
- Select the object and click on ‘Transport Object’ icon
- Give the package (other than ‘$tmp’)
- Click on ‘Continue’
- Select Own Request or Create Request
- Drill down to subtask and select ‘Continue’
Grouping Techniques:
- Only necessary objects:
We can collect the required objects in a transport request number
2. In data flow before:
All the objects that send data to main object are collected
3. In data flow afterwards:
All objects that get data from main object will be collected
4. In data flow before and afterwards:
All the objects are collected in this case
Steps to see transport request number:
- Go to tcode SE09
- Select the ‘Request type’ and ‘Request Status’ (either Modifiable or Released)
- Select ‘Display’
Steps to release transport request number:
- Go to tcode SE09
- Select the ‘Request type’ and ‘Request Status’ (either Modifiable or Released)
- Select ‘Display’
- Select the subtask
- Click on ‘Release Directly’ icon
- Select the main task and click on ‘Release Directly’ icon
Note: The transport request number should be in released status for importing into another server
Steps to import request into next server:
- Go to the target server
- Go to tcode ‘STMS’
- Click on ‘Import Overview’
- Double click on the ‘System Name’
- Select the transport request number
- Click on ‘Import Request’ icon
Steps to unlock a transport request number:
- Go to SE03
- Give the transport request number
- Select ‘Execute’
- Select ‘Unlock’
Note: If a transport request has objects, first unlock the objects then delete the transport request number. (First delete the subtask the delete the main task)
Best Practices:
- Collect all the structures in a single transport request number
- Collect all the transformations in another transport request number
- Collect all the DTP’s into another transport request number
- Collect all the reports in one transport request number
Note: If we change the existing object, delete the data from the target table then move the transports to the target server
would have been great if you had provided the same with some screens...
