With the final stage of SAP's "The Power of Small" competition approaching, it all boils down to the voting to find out who will be crowned the most innovative entrepreneur to bring about social change.

In June this year, SAP teamed with Ashoka Changemakers – a global community dedicated to tackling social challenges – to initiate an international competition that would breathe life into struggling local economies. Under the title ”The Power of Small: Entrepreneurs Strengthening Local Economies,” the competition aims to identify and support the most innovative strategies that will help emerging entrepreneurs and small businesses thrive in underserved communities and at the same time have a positive impact on the local population.

A chance to create lasting change

Out of the 370 entries submitted, a panel of expert judges has been deliberating to select 11 finalists based on their innovation, social impact, and sustainability. Now, together with the Ashoka Changemakers online community, it's time for SAP employees and the SAP ecoystem to get involved and help select four winners from the stiff competition. Each winner will be awarded a cash prize of USD 10,000 to boost their project, a technology donation from SAP, and the opportunity to benefit from SAP know-how and expertise.

The final line-up couldn’t be more diverse. Entries stem from eight different countries across four regions, comprise start-up businesses and NGOs, and cover a wide range of ideas; from micro-franchise acceleration in South Africa to app developments that support small businesses at the base of the social pyramid. But finalists have one thing in common:  their innovative business model ideas have the potential to be system-changing and improve the lives of thousands of people in a sustainable manner.

Three votes to make the world run better

Until November 2, everyone has the chance to cast three votes for their favorite competition entries by registering on the competition website.

The finalists will be invited to the SAP SAPPHIRE NOW conference, taking place November 13-15 in Madrid, where the four winners will be announced.
