Countdown to the SAP Retail Forum North America!  Get ready for exciting customer sessions (with Fossil, Under Armour and Neiman Marcus, no less), store tours, keynotes and some serious solution demos. I had time to interview Joe Reilly, Solution Engineer for SAP Retail, about the Mobile Point of Sale solution, which he will be demo-ing at Forum in the Innovation Pavilion.  Here’s what he had to say:

Mobile Point of Sale is a product developed in conjunction with our partner Agilysys, which essentially makes the SAP POS solution accessible for mobile devices.  With Mobile POS, an iPhone or iPhone Touch can become just like another register in the store and can access all the logic from the SAP POS system.  The amazing benefit of the Mobile Point of Sale solution is that it empowers your stores associates to create a streamlined shopping experience for your customers.  Traditionally, a shopper may ask one store associate for help with picking out an item and then take the item to another associate at the register to make the purchase. With Mobile POS, one store associate equipped with a Mobile POS enabled device, can walk with a customer around the store, talk with the customer, help him/her pick out products and complete the transaction all through the smartphone, resulting in a much more personalized and pleasant shopping experience.  If you’re looking for a solution that can make your shoppers feel special, this is definitely it.

Now, for a personal story: I recently went to Sephora, a SAP customer that is live with the Mobile POS solution, for some men’s cologne.  Upon entering the store, a helpful store associate asked me what I was looking for, helped me sample a couple types of colognes (apparently, I prefer spicier notes), and completed the transaction all through his Mobile POS enabled iPhone. And, boy, did I feel special!

If you will be attending the SAP Retail Forum North America in Dallas next week, feel free to visit me in the Innovation Pavilion for a live demo of Mobile Point of Sale.  If you can’t make it to Forum, you can always check out the solution in action at a Sephora store.
