The beautiful Astir Palace Resort in Athens was the location for the 3rd Annual Oil & Gas Summit for EMEA in early July this year. Whilst the location proved to be a great backdrop, the facilities remained mostly unused as the internal Oil & Gas Community within SAP spent two days discussing how best to fulfil the needs of the customers within the region.

Sponsored by the Premier Customer Network organisation over 100 people from the SAP partner Community, the Oil & Gas Industries Group, Consulting, Line of Business, Value Engineering, and Account Teams focussed primarily on how  the Industry in been successful in the past by being at the forefront in innovation, and how innovation topics will also be entrenched in their future success.

The event benefited greatly by including SAP product partner community as the main focus of the first day. Enhancing the standard SAP portfolio and Oil & Gas specific solutions the partners shared with the group their unique product and service offerings, and their success stories that often fill white space in the SAP offerings for the customers.

The second day was focussed on the cross-fertilization of teams within the region. Breaking the eighteen account teams into six teams of three, the idea is to mix teams with different experience levels, and regions in order to maximise their shared experiences. This was then backed by teams of industry, and product experts who rotated throughout the day to discuss value propositions that could enhance SAP’s service to the customers.

At the end of the event each account team left with multiple propositions that could ultimately be discussed with the customer, to maximise the benefits derived from their usage of the SAP products, partner products and service offerings. For the third year in succession the event received very positive feedback, with all participants highlighting shared experiences and networking as the great differentiator.
