How To Leverage Social Media Ambassadors & Experts at SAP TechEd Las Vegas

October is fast approaching and do you know what season it is? MLB Baseball playoffs AND SAP TechEd! A double header of sorts.

One of my fondest memories when I was growing up was heading to the ball park to watch my favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies. Since I loved to keep score and follow the other team (but did not really know them as well as the Fightins), I needed a scorecard. In fact, my dad and I would always pass the same program guy, who would break through the crowd in a great scratchy voice “you can’t know the players with out a scorecard”. By having a scorecard and knowing the players, I had a much better game-time experience! Since this IS baseball and SAP TechEd season … I thought I would give you my recommendation of the official and unofficial social media ambassadors at this year’s big October Event, SAP TechEd, so you can have the best possible experience.

But, before I give you my list, let me tell you why it’s good to use a ‘scorecard’ to get to know the players better. One of my favorite SAP social media colleagues, Sarah Goodall , outlined some great points that inspired my adaptation of the key reasons that you want leverage social media ambassadors as your social media event docent! (thanks Sarah for letting me take the liberty to leverage your blog post for SapphireNow Madrid). Key reasons include:

  • Expert Background: Most social media ambassadors are experts in their field and have incredible credibility in their respective fields, so their pre- and at-event content is value-add to your experience. By following this group you will receive a stream of relevant SAP TechEd event and topic background from each ambassador or expert.

  • Focused On A Topic: Ambassadors typically focus their attention in a specific area, HANA, for example. By following one or a collection, you can ensure you receive event coverage across the entire SAP TechEd event. for your particular interest area.

  • Accessibility: SAP TechEd social media ambassadors that are accessible to the inside scoop and get get behind the scenes (literally with ‘back stage’ passes. They do not just pump content out onto social media platforms. Rather, they will engage you early and relevantly with truly original content!

  • Storytellers: We all love a story and by leveraging a social media ambassador you can get the most complex technology in layman terms so your Grandma can understand.!

  • Social Ninjas. Most social media ambassadors are social ninjas, so you will receives photos, Instagrams, videos and message in the most easy-to-consumer and best-practice way possible!  A great cable television analogy here is getting the content in “HD vs. analog”.

  • Close To The Market: Most social media ambassadors are local-ish to the venue and especially to the business or solution area, so they’re closer to the issues and the customers that will be attending the live event.

This year’s social media team to follow are:

Key Event Accounts and Hashtags

@SAPTechEd

#SAPTechEd

On-site TechEd Social Media Ambassadors

SAP Social Media & SAP TechEd Event Leaders

SAP Mentors:

Other SAP Experts

So, take me out to SAP TechEd, take me out to the best SAP game in town …..

PS. If I missed anyone on this list, please add him or her in the comment area! See you in Las Vegas!

Thanks for the mention! I'll be at TechEd Madrid, not Vegas this year unfortunately though.

      Hi Gerry,

It's always good to know who is going (and more importantly, how to get to them) but I guess I need to wait a few years until we all have RFIDs implanted, and can automagically find the folks we're looking for.

Yeah, MLB playoffs?  Not for this town!

      Hi Gerry,

Thanks for the mention (honored), but just like Tim I won't be at SAPTechEd Vegas. I'm sure we're doing something wrong here 😉 .

      Good luck with the event!

      Cheers, Fred

      Hey Gerry,

Adding my name @gailmoody and @anitawky as social ambassadors at SAP Tech Ed (Anita at LV, Me at LV and Madrid). Our focus will be making sure that all attendees realize that SAP Community Network is "SAP Tech Ed to Go!". So we will be looking to initiate the uninitiated - you will see us roaming the property touching as many as we can. We will also have cameras to capture some compelling videos of people who use the community to Learn, Make Connections and Build Their Reputations. See you there

Gail Moody-Byrd-  I like the idea of SCN being "SAP TechEd to Go" - excellent ideas!

I look forward to seeing you again and meeting the great Anitay Yuen in person.

Hi Gerry and thanks for the mention!

Since I'm hoping to avoid RFID implants, I'll just let everyone know where I'm going to be.  Look for me at the Clubhouse, where me and my team will be helping out with FREE profressional head shot photos that attendees can use in SCN, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Also, @Marilyn_Pratt and I will be doing "Run with the Community" in Vegas again this year.  All those health conscious attendees should meet up with us in the main lobby at 6:15 am for a jog through Vegas. Don't forget to pack your running gear!

I'm hosting a couple of sessions in the Networking Lounge as well to talk about status and priorities for the SCN platform.  That should be even more lively than the morning jog!  😉

See you all in Vegas.  (I'll be in Madrid in November as well!)

Hi Gerry, nice post. I'll be attending TechEd as well on behalf of SAP Global Communications. I'll be posting content to SAP Business Trends on SCN, the TechEd space on SCN and also our blog channel on Forbes. Always looking for cool stories so just throwing my name out there too if peeps want to get in touch with me.

      Thanks!
