Blog It Forward – Tammy Powlas
Following xMoshe Naveh (Old Acct) blog it forward blog, here is my blog. Moshe blogged it forward to me.
My name is Tammy. I was born in Missouri and grew up in Kansas. Now I live in Virginia and work just outside the Washington DC Beltway, one of the busiest traffic areas here in the United States. I am also an ASUG volunteer and an SAP Mentor. I am also a Certified Public Accountant and a Project Management Professional.
Picture is of Fairfax, VA, just a few steps away from the busy traffic.
I also spend time volunteering at the local library, working the busy book drop, checking in books I never seem to find time to read. Fun fact about myself – I am descended from the Oneida and Choctaw Native American tribes, both of which were matriarchal societies.
- What was your dream job as a kid?
My dream job as a kid was to have a desk job like Mary Richards in the Mary Tyler Moore Show, one of my favorite TV shows of all time.
- What is your favorite place in the world?
Easy – my favorite place in the world is Manhattan, New York. Why? Because as Woody Allen said in one of my favorite movies, Manhattan Murder Mystery, it’s a melting pot. Anything and everything is there, and the city never sleeps.
- What was the most fun project you ever participated in and why?
One of the most fun projects was volunteering at the Kansas City Missouri Public Library for book sales. We raised money sorting and selling used books. I really enjoy books, so this was heaven for me.
- Recommend resources of information that helped you in your work
sap.com/learnbi where there are free tutorials
- What do you most enjoy on SCN?
I enjoy the blogs and always learn something new
- What is the best resource of information in SCN?
bit.ly/new-scn-search – SCN search developed by Jason Lax
I am blogging it forward to Gretchen Lindquist and Bhanu Gupta , fellow SAP Mentors and ASUG Volunteers, and ask them to answer the following questions:
7/10/13: Adding Gareth Ryan
· Share a fun fact/story about yourself that people don’t know
· Describe in one short sentence: “what need does your SAP solution meet”
· What do you enjoy most in your work and why?
Have fun!
I love this initiative and learning more about you Tammy! Thanks for jumping right in!
Wow you've lived in many states. I wonder which is your favorite and why. I've been in a number of US states but neither Kansas or Missouri.
For members reading, Tammy is also a wonderfully dedicated Moderator and an SAP Mentor to boot!
I'll be posting my BIF later in the day 🙂
You are so kind Gali Kling Schneider
Well my favorite state is Kansas, as that is where I grew up and went to school
You should come out to the Midwest in the U.S., as it has the best barbecue food ever!

Hi Tammy,
As always, I learn more from you! I am going to love the search (bit.ly/new-scn-search) by Jason Lax.
And I am not surprised about your volunteer work in the library - that would be a little slice of heaven for me too!

Totaly +1 to all that was written so far.
It is such pleasure working with you Tammy. Your level of dedication is such a necessity in a community like SCN. I wish us many more years of collaboration on SCN.
Thanks a lot again for all the things that you do.
Special thanks to your support in the #BIF challenge.
Moshe.
Mary Tyler Moore!
We are kindred spirits... Mary blazed the trail indeed in many ways, as an iconic working single woman.
>> Fun fact about myself - I am descended from the Oneida and Choctaw Native American tribes, both of which were matriarchal societies.
This is so amazing -- what a great lineage. I can't wait to meet you and learn more about this some day!
Moya - thanks for commenting; Mary Richards was my hero growing up. I still quote Rhoda "chocolate solves it all".
As for the lineage, my dad always said "you remind me so much of those Oneida women" - ready to take charge!
Looking forward to meeting you in person one day.
Tammy
Powerful, informed and influencing woman, who does that influencing with such a quiet grace. If that is part of your lineage and heritage bring more of that here.
Hi Tammy,
I love NY too! So vibrant and definitely a melting pot.
I don't spend a day without reading your Tweets. Thanks for giving so much back to our community.
Cheers,
Alexandra
