In A Relationship with HANA ! - Part 1

Let me introduce myself first - I’m Vivek, working as a Technical Analyst in Colgate Palmolive, India since a year now and have about 5 years’ experience in SAP ABAP.  Recently, I’ve been a part of HANA team in my organization, which was formed to research, analyze and discuss the architecture of HANA and how it will change the way we would code. We would also train and support our colleagues in the coming days about the same.

We did a lot of research, trying to figure out what exactly is HANA and how exactly does it function to prove its claim of better performance. It was quite exciting and we came across interesting facts about HANA architecture, its setup and the best way we could make use of “HANA Power”.

The objective of this blog is to explain about my journey with HANA from a technical point of view, which I hope, will be of some help to my fellow members of SAP Community. Also I might be having an incorrect notion on some of the facts about HANA and if you feel so, please don’t hesitate to correct me.

I’ll share my learnings and understanding of Basic Architecture of HANA and how it can be used as Primary or Secondary Database. Then explain the role of components like SLT, Accelerators and an overview of Native SQL. And finally, we would change a program to make it HANA enabled and see performance improvement and hence, prove “HANA Power” :smile: .
