As I sit here writing this, on my desk are three cell phones, an iPad, a laptop, and four empty cups of coffee (or used oil from my ’93 Accord, I’m not quite sure). I’m not sure which ones are mine and which ones belong to cube-squatting co-workers, but in the back of my mind an alert keeps popping up, telling me that I need to sync one with another one, and that that one document needs to actually be transferred to a different device. I’d have included a picture, but my family would disown me. The lack of organization on my desk and in my brain is nothing to be proud of, young man.

You’re not me, and you should be thankful for this, because, as this all-too-transparent insight into how my ADHD-riddled neurons mis-fire repeatedly demonstrates, it’s incredibly difficult to manage even one mobile device, to mention nothing of doing it for different types on different platforms. Think of the complexity of managing all the replications, integrations, harmonizing and synchronization of apps, data, security, passwords, and functionality for devices across an entire organization – imagine what it’s like to do for a company with tens of thousands of employees, contractors, partners, and other stakeholders.

So you can begin to get a sense for the monumental task that IT departments face. Desktop management had the luxury of a relatively slow evolution and companies could adapt in a more manageable way. But mobile devices are being adopted so quickly that the challenge is not just to keep up, but to do so in a way that continues to support your business. If the mobile platform can’t be managed, it’s going to be a disaster for productivity.

SAP Afaria delivers an incredibly powerful mobile device management system and focuses on making the whole thing easy, secure and accessible. In action, it starts to immediately provide value because of the breadth of its offerings, as how easy it is to use.

SAP is now offering a 14-day test drive of Afaria – we know that once you experience the value of SAP’s Mobile Device and Application Management solution first-hand with support from our world class experts, you’ll instantly appreciate how valuable it is. Register for the test-drive and give it a shot. And if your desk becomes decluttered as a result, send me a picture of it.

Which releases of Windows is AFARIA compatible? XP, Windows 7? or only Win mobile?

I’m trying to understand why if it works for laptop devices with windows, it’s possible to work with desktops?
