SAP HANA Startup Forum Day – TLV 2012

My name is Erez Sobol and I’m the Head of the Technology Ventures team in SAP Labs Israel. We are responsible for harvesting the Israeli Eco-system to find opportunities for SAP. On July 11, together with the local SAP HANA (HANA Coil^2) team, we invited 14 local Startups to the Startup Forum, an entire day of learning and collaboration centered around big data and SAP technologies. The startups who attended were:

ClickTale, C-B4, CPattern, Flash Networks, GreenSQL, Kaltura, MyThings, Newvem, Valire, Panaya, PrimeQue, Pursway, SafePeak, Senexx

This event is a part of a world-wide SAP Startup Focus Program, which empowers startups to develop new applications using SAP HANA. The Startups that qualify for the final stages of the program benefit from assistance in technology adoption, Go To Market (GTM) and in some cases, investment.

The day started with an introduction of SAP HANA from the local SAP team. The primary goal of this team is to look for new technologies and applications for SAP HANA.

After this presentation, each Startup presented their solution/application to SAP executives. Their aim was to convince the SAP Executives in just 6 minutes why should they be the ones to qualify for the next stage in the SAP HANA startups Focus program.
Following lunch, we continued with breakout sessions where the Startups had the opportunity dive deeper into the following topics: the SAP Startup Focus Program, SAP Ventures options & SAP HANA technical details.

The closing part of the day was the Expo where the Startups demoed their solutions in front of SAP Labs employees. It was a part of a funding game where each employee was given fake money that they invested in their favorite company. The winning startup was the one that “raised” the largest sum of money. Want to know who the winner was? Watch the video!

Ten startups qualified for the “SAP HANA boot-camp” event which is a part of the SAP HANA Startup Focus Developer Accelerator Program.  At the boot-camp they will watch detailed technical presentations and have hands on experience with SAP HANA.

Now we are waiting for the start-ups to develop a PoC (Prof of Concept) using HANA that will be hopefully presented during the next SAPPHIRE keynote.

These "grassroots" events, especially around pairing startups and SAP, are great. I like the local-ness of the startup forum, and its focus on building around/on SAP HANA.

Great event!! I have heard a great deal re: ClickTale. Very cool company indeed revolutionizing the Web Analytics/User Experience space. Love the grass roots SAP start-up feel. Israel is DEFINITELY the Start-Up nation!
