A few days ago a number of tweets caught my eye. Both appeared fortuitously within a minute of each other. Separately they were powerful in their own rights but together they made me think and reaffirmed my thoughts about Mobile UX/Design and how Mobile Apps should relate to the Enterprise.
The first pointed to an article http://www.avc.com/a_vc/2012/07/mobile-is-where-the-growth-is.html Where basically it states that... "Mobile does not reward feature richness. It rewards small, application specific, feature light services." An interesting thought with respect to application scope and totally correct. In your company the MIC or Mobile Innovation Council should be concentrating on getting correct first time their ADS or Application Definition Statement, which sums up the core reason for the creation of the Mobile App.
The second was from my friends at FutureNavigator in Denmark. See http://bit.ly/LUQLxd .It is all about Complexity to Simplexity – Megatrends. These guys really are about innovation and future thinking, in any space not just technology, by turning things on their heads and thinking outside the box... Thinking differently... Now where have you heard that before?
When you combine these two thoughts together, it builds in my mind, a clear statement that Innovative Mobile Apps should be focused. In the Enterprise what is needed, is to take existing business processes to mobile in a way that encourages the Information Worker to want to use the application, because of ease of use, clarity of design, focus of vision and make your Mobile App excel at what it was planned to do.
Modifying FutureNavigator's byline I believe the mantra for Enterprise Mobile Apps should be...
"Build from Enterprise Complexity to Mobile Simplexity".
