MEAP (Mobile Enterprise Application Platform), an Acronym for Today’s Retailer

MEAP, the four letter acronym that’s on every mobile-minded retailer’s mind.  It stands for Mobile Enterprise Application Platform, and there are hundreds of vendors offering a multitude of platforms.  At a glance, they may all look pretty similar.  Therefore, what separates SAP’s MEAP from our competitors’ offerings? The key differences can be broken down into 4 parts:

1.      SAP has a 1st Tier Mobile Platform

The Sybase Unwired Platform (SUP) is great for building complex, mobile applications for internal use.  These applications can be utilized by employees for back-office functions, such as locating merchandise stock, or for front-of-store purposes, such as for customer service and for tracking customer loyalty programs.  If you are already a retailer running SAP ERP applications, a SUP implementation is extremely easy because the existing retail software backend that will integrate seamlessly with SUP.  For mobile app development, about 2/3 of the work on the project lies in connecting to backend services or in writing intricate code to connect to the ERP software.  This is also the area where most mistakes occur, and where the coding requires the most expensive and advanced personnel (think super-skilled mobile apps engineers).   As a SAP retailer, choosing SUP as your MEAP can significantly simplify and shorten the time it takes to launch a mobile initiative.

For retailers interested in building simpler mobile applications with less coding, SAP also offers the Syclo platform.  Syclo does not require as much coding as SUP and allows people without programming backgrounds to create internal mobile apps with less complexity.

For developing customer-facing mobile applications, SAP offers the Mobilizer platform with extensions for PhoneGap, Sench Touch, and Appcelerator.  This platform enables retailers to build outstanding customer-facing applications such as loyalty apps or mobile storefronts in a fraction of the time possible via custom coding.

2.      We have an (Extremely) Well-Established & Varied ERP & Analytics Solutions Portfolio

Because we are SAP, a company well known for (and founded upon) its ERP and analytics software solutions, any mobile project a retailer begins is never a from-scratch, startup project.  Rather, retailers can choose from thousands of SAP software products to incorporate into their mobile application.  No other vendor can offer as many ready-to-go solutions that can integrate smoothly with a MEAP as SAP.  In addition, the large menu of available solutions enables each retailer to create a fully customizable and optimized mobile application that will provide the most benefits for the company.

3.      SAP has a World Class Team of Experts

SAP was founded back in 1972.  In the past 40 years, SAP has empowered thousands of customers all over the world with software solutions and in the process, developed an amazing global network of experts. With every new implementation, these experts acquire valuable learnings and best practices, in which they will share with future customers.  By relying on SAP for your enterprise mobile strategy, you’re also gaining access to a team of specialized experts and years of experience in implementing these solutions.

4.      We also have a Global Ecosystem of Partners

Besides our world-class team of experts, we also have a global ecosystem of partners who are experts of SAP technology.  These partners are expanding on our current portfolio of solutions by building their own mobile products on top of the existing SAP platforms.   By developing a synergy with SAP and our partners, retailers can easily go to market with optimized enterprise mobile applications.
