Delivery Groups: To Ensure Line Items are Delivered togather

Hello Friends,

Firstly let me sincerely thank our member Ravi Shankar for explaining the concept of Delivery Groups to me.

Deilvery Group ensures that the Line Items in Sales Order are confirmed & delivered togather (on the same date).

We all know that in BoM there is generally a requirement to delivery the BoM Components togather. Here can in Item Category Definitation (VOV7) we have Bill of Material/Configuration Tab where we have check box for Delivery Groups & system will automatically assign Delivery Groups to BoM Components.

But, what if the requirement like above comes in standard (normal) materials or Free Goods, where you need to ensure that all the Item should be confirmed & delivered on the same date.

It is here that Delivery Groups are useful. In Sales Order after entering the Line Item go to Shipping Tab in Overview screen (not in Header or Item Details) Here you will find a small column for Delivery Group. We just need to enter a same digit in all the Line Items that are required to be delivered togather, as shown below:

This will ensure that both the Line Item are delivered togather. If you change Delivery Date in onle Item, system will ensure that the same Date is copied in both Items.

The above scenario is specially useful in Free Goods.

Thanks,

Jignesh Mehta

  • In VA01, overview screen, Tab Shipping, the field Delivery group is greyed-out, with default value 0 (zero). How could I change this field to editable?

Why is this field currently in greyed-out mode?

I have used item category TAN.

    Thank you!

    • The reason for field Delivery group being greyed-out in the sales order was that the field "Complete delivery reqd by law" was activated in the CMR.

This is understandable, if the entire sales order has to be delivered in one delivery then by default all the line items of the sales orders are grouped into one group, so that all line items are delivered together.

In the sales order, the delivery group was given 1, 2, 3 for three line items, inspite of that in VL01N only one delivery was created. Could you please help in understanding why there were not three deliveries created?

Also tried with giving delivery groups 1, 6, 4, but again only one delivery was created.

      Thank you!

The delivery split will not happen based on delivery groups. When all the schedule lines (of different items) have the same delivery date (and if they meet other criteria), they will be copied to a single delivery. The delivery group should ensure that all the items in the same group should be delivered together....but not mandatory to have a separate delivery. All the items in a delivery group should be in the same delivery and can be along with many other items.

        Thanks,

        Ravi Sankar

        • Ravi,

          Thank you for your comment!

F4 help, in field "Delivery group":

Delivery group (items are delivered together)

A combination of items that should be delivered together.

          Please comment on the below:

There are 4 line items in the sales order.

In overview, Tab Shipping, delivery group is given

          Line item 10 - 1

          Line item 20 - 2

          Line item 30 - 3

          Line item 40 - 4

          Two deliveries are created

Delivery one with line items 10 and 20

Delivery two with line items 30 and 40

Then when user goes back to VA02, overview, Tab Shipping, the Delivery group should not be the above, it should be

          Line item 10 - 1

          Line item 20 - 1

          Line item 30 - 2

          Line item 40 - 2

If the first two line itmes have delivery groups 1,2 then it does not convey - in the sales order - that line items 10 and 20 have been grouped together in the delivery.

In your example, there is only one item in each delivery group. If a delivery group is assigned for more than one line item, then the availability check will be re run to make sure that all the items tied to that specific delivery group will have the same (the latest of all the line items) delivery date, so that all items can be copied to the same delivery. All the items tied to this specific delivery group should not be in different deliveries.

In your example, each delivery group has only one item and incidentally, all the line items might be having the same delivery dates in the respective schedule lines.

If you create a similar example, and make sure that different items have different confirmed delivery dates, and if you assign a delivery group to more than one line item, then you can observe the change of confirmed delivery dates in the schedule lines of these items, changing to the same delivery date. When you create a delivery all these items will be copied to the same delivery and if the other items do not have the same delivery date in the schedule lines, those items will not be copied to that delivery. Please check.

            Thanks,

            Ravi Sankar

          • Hello T W,

You have assigned Delivery Groups - 1,2,3,4 to four line item so system will not re-check the Availibility Dates.

Had you assigned same Delivery Group to more than one LIne Item, then system will check confirmed Dates of those Items (having same Delivery Group) & ensure that these Item are confirmed & Delivered on same date.

            Thanks,

            Jignesh Mehta

          • Hi Jignesh,

Thank you very much for the useful post. Have one question though. In cases where sales orders are created in mass and if each sales order has more than 100 line items, is there any way where we can default the entry as 1 for delivery group column? Manually entering a number cannot be an option.

Can you please suggest on this?

            Thanks & Regards,

            Rohan Gudavalli
