In case you are interested in data migration tools more in detail than just the basics I’m covering in my blogs, there is a new edition of the SAP PRESS book Migrating Your SAP Data. Currently this all new 3rd edition is available in German only (Datenmigration in SAP). But for those of you who are familiar with that language and can’t wait until the book will be available in English, it’s worth a look. For the first time, the ETL tool SAP Data Services is covered in the data migration context. ETL stands for Extract, Transform, Load. This product which is part of the SAP Enterprise Information Management (EIM) portfolio becomes a complete data migration solution utilizing the SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions (RDS) content for data migration.

The book Datenmigration in SAP contains all the necessary steps from the connection to the legacy source system(s), the mapping of the data fields, the transformation of the data values, the validation of the data records, and finally the data load to the SAP target system. It also inlcudes tips and tricks which makes it a very good reference guide for any data migration project.
