Ever had the request to add comments to a dashboard? Typically one would need to author the comments and store them somewhere and have the association to the data either by means of the time period or several dimensions to keep the context of the comment and information in tact. And then there is BW, with a 60 character length limitation requiring long text to be split up into chunks and at read time be reassembled.

No more, this is how we have done it. Read How To Get Live Commentary Xcelsius, Using SAP Function Modules and Web Services.pdf for a step by step guide on how to leverage off ECC and all the other good connectivity things we know about Xcelsius re web services and so on to get the comments in and out again.

Some may view this as not a very slick solution, but the bottom line is it works very well and saves a lot of hassle when multiple dashboards require commentary with history preservation.

Enjoy!
