It’s Day 3 at SAPPHIRE NOW and I finally had the opportunity to stroll the massive show floor and fill my swag bag with plenty of goodies. Along the way, I came across a really cool demo area called “The Future of Smart Energy with SAP HANA.”
A large, interactive map of Manhattan, a version of which could be viewed in 3-D (that’s me, pictured) showed different areas of the NYC borough and the energy being consumed in each area.
While utility companies would no doubt find something like this incredibly useful, that’s not really the point of this super-cool showcase. As Daniel Freese, Digital Experience, SAP Marketing put it:
“It really shows the power of SAP HANA to analyze huge amounts of data.”
How huge? According to the demo screen, database records were over one billion and the last query clocked in at a lightning fast 0.130 seconds.
Daniel also pointed out that this showcase hints at the future possibilities with Smart Meters, something that SAP knows a thing or two about.
Not everyone is a fan of 3-D, or SAP HANA for that matter. So what’s your take with this type of fun, flashy demo? Does it help or hinder the growth of SAP’s in-memory strategy?
If you’re undecided, be sure to stop by the SAP SAPPHIRE NOW Newsroom to get up to…ahem…speed on the latest SAP HANA developments.
