Hello Everyone,

In this document, I would like to take you through the different options available at Quick launch screen in SAP HANA.

We have 7 major sections in Quick Launch screen as show in below screen.

  1. Select System.
  2. New (where we can create all Models).
  3. Package
  4. Content
  5. Setup
  6. Data
  7. Help


In Part-1 document, I have explained about first 4 sections (Select System, New, Package and Content). In this one I will explain about the remaining 3 sections.

5) Setup: Here we can maintain the setting for HANA studio, configuration of server settings and schema mappings.

i) Manage Preference: In this functionality we can maintain settings for Information Modeler and Administration Console.

As an example I will show you how to increase rows displayed in data preview. If we do data preview on any View, we will get max of 5000 rows.

So how to increase the number of rows display in data preview.


a) Click on ‘Manage Preferences’ in Quick Launch screen.


b) Now Click on ‘Modeler’ –> Data Preview’ to get the below screen.


c) Here we can change the settings.

ii) Configure Import Server:

Here we need to maintain the Repository Server name for Data Services. The below screen will give you the idea.


iii) Delivery Unit: This is useful to create Delivery Unit which is a group of transportable objects (Packages). For example we can create the delivery unit for the objects which we want to move to the HANA next system or export to local system.

Note: This Delivery unit is identified by Vendor and Name.

Before we start delivery unit creation, we have to maintain the properties for Vendor. This can be done in ‘Manage Preferences’ section.


  1. In Quick Launch screen, click on ‘Delivery Unit’


      b) Click on ‘Create’

c) Give the Delivery Unit, Vendor and person responsible.

d) Click on ‘Add’ to assign the packages to the delivery unit.

e) Close.

Now we can export this delivery unit to local system or other HANA server.

iv) Schema Mapping: We use this functionality to map authoring schema to the physical database schema. This is done when the source schema (authoring schema) is different than the physical schema (Target Schema).

We can connect multiple source schemas to same target schema.


  1. Click on ‘Schema Mapping’ in Quick Launch screen.


b) Enter the Authoring and Physical schema.

c) Click on ‘Add’ to add it and Ok.

6) Data: In this section we can maintain the setting for Data Provisioning, generate time data and open sql editor directly.

i) Generate Time Data: This is used to generate time data and load it into the attribute view table.

We can generate two types of time data.

  1. Gregorian

   b. Fiscal


a) Click on ‘Generate Time Data’ in Quick Launch screen to get below screen.


b) Select Calendar Type i) Gregorian ii) Fiscal

c) If we select ‘Gregorian’ type, then give from year and To Year.

d) Select ‘Granularity’. Below are the available granularities.


d) If we select ‘Fiscal’ then we have to give the Variant table(T009 table)

e) Now click on ‘Generate’ to load the time data into HANA system.

ii) Data Provisioning: This is used to load the data into HANA system using SLT or Sybase Replication Server.


a) In Quick Launch screen, click on ‘Data Provisioning’.

b) If you are using SLT-based replication, choose ‘Source’.

c) Choose Load (for initial load) or Replicate (for data replication) as appropriate.

d) Select the required tables.

e) Choose Add.

f) If you are using the load controller infrastructure, choose Next and enter the operating system username and password.

g) Choose Finish.

iii) SQL editor: We can create the objects, tables and schemas from here instead using Information modeler navigation’s.

7) Help: Here you will find all sap help documentation on SAP HANA.
