Discovering the Method to "Mobile Madness" at SAP Inside Track Vancouver 2012

On April 12, SAP Inside Track Vancouver 2012 welcomed 25 companies and 84 attendees to the Executive Briefing Center for an exciting day of 4 speaker sessions, including speakers from Research in Motion and a memorable and fun Mobility Demo Jam competition.

Inside Track is an unconference event for SAP professionals to share, learn and connect with each other beyond the SAP Community Network. The theme of this year’s Inside Track is Mobile Madness!

We used social media like Twitter to create buzz around speaker sessions and keep the momentum of the conversation going. Every attendee was encouraged to “bring your own [mobile] device” (BYOD) to focus on the mobility theme: from smartphone-enabled check-in with Eventbrite, to QR code use throughout the day, to Mobility Demo Jam voting using an online poll.

Before SAP Inside Track, jason.cao had described the current mobility landscape as "mobile madness" and suggested we could come together and find a “method” to the “madness.” Based on the feedback of attendees, it appears we were successful at breaking down the dearth of options and information available.

I really enjoyed the Mobility Demo Jam competition, hosted by david.brutman, which was a departure from the previous Inside Track events and took a cue from SAP TechEd conferences by showcasing the amazing, local talent. This competition got everyone involved and we even used our mobile devices to vote using PollEverywhere.  

The event was useful to gather in person to glimpse new developments in SAP mobile app technology, augmented reality techniques and mobility best practices (courtesy of Ed Bourne from Research in Motion). The event was also made memorable and exciting because many of the attendees went away with some amazing mobility prizes donated by the SAP IT team and RIM! It was fun to re-connect with SAP customers, partners, and colleagues, and meet new ones in an informal setting to share a mutual passion for all things mobile.
