A few weeks ago, we held the annual DKOM (Developer Kick off Meeting) for all the SAP Labs Israel developers near Tel-Aviv. One of the entrants in the traditional DemoJam contest at the end of the event was one which I couldn't resist but sharing. The idea is pretty simple - Everyone wants to build HTML5 based applications leveraging the latest SAP technology pieces - NetWeaver Gateway, SAP UI5, On Demand Portal. The problem is that you have to be a pretty adept developer in order to do that. However - Creating content should not be that difficult. Years ago we already proved that with Visual Composer. A brief reminder - Visual Composer is a rapid application development tool, enabling modeling UIs instead of coding them. It creates flash based / Web Dynpro Java based applications, quickly and easily on top of existing data services (BAPIs, RFCs, Web Services, JDBC, BI Services and even HANA). The guys at the Visual Composer team decided to build a proof of concept (POC) demo for DKOM showing how you could use Visual Composer to build a widget for On Demand portal, consuming Gateway services and generating an HTML5 UI.

Just to manage expectations - the Video below shows a demo. Its not an official product (yet?). However - I think its a nice example of bringing several technology pieces together to form an end-to-end tooling environment.
