The LMDB in Solution Manager 71 is very powerful and holds a lot of information. The technical system data comes from the LMDB synchronisation with the SLD or if you upgraded from 701 to 71 from original systems in transaction SMSY. Another source of technical system data comes from the DAA Diagnostic and saphostagents.

When I first started setting managed systems up in 71 I came across an error where the host data in the technical system editor was not showing the software components. This data in the technical systems editor is “read only” and according to the help notes is updated with the “Outside Discovery process”.

This led me to the Diagnostic and saphostagents. Anyway with the DAA agent running the latest patch and version 7.3 I began to look at the sap hostagent.  This was at a low level PL62, the latest PL was 91.

So I began to upgrade this where I came across  Note 1473974 - Using the SAP Host Agent Auto Upgrade Feature.

In the note is a nice PDF SAPHostAgent-AutoUpgrade.pdf , a very simple but effective way to update your saphostagent version automatically.

Without screen shooting the document word by word I’ll explain the minimin effort to upgrade your saphostagent in five minutes.

  1. In the host_profile add parameter DIR_NEW = (path to a empty directory) /usr/sap/hostcntrl/new for example. Restart SAPHostControl and SAPHostExec
  2. Download the latest saphostagent .SAR file from SAPNet.
  3. Unpack the downloaded saphostagent .SAR in the directory of step 1.
  4. Then every 5 minutes the SAPHostExec looks for an upgraded version to upgrade in DIR_NEW. This is default but you can change this with parameter hostexec/autoupgrade_delay= in the host_profile directory.

With this done so easily the technical system data for host received the required software components to complete the managed system setup wizard.
