Can we monitor any Standalone Server using SAP Solution Manager ?
This question might have come to your mind many times.
Here is one approach where using the SAP Probes and technical objects, you can virtually monitor any Server, Service, Object on any hardware machine (Linux or Windows).
The approach explained in one of my published article is a generic approach, you can think of this as an example in which I have tried to explain how to set up monitoring on the Business object edge server by installing SAP Host Agent and Scripts.
Later using the standard webservice a ABAP Proxy reads the data from the Business objects Edge Server and then a Report is created with different parameters which triggers the different scripts and collect different kind of data from BOBJ Machine.
These reports are later consumed in EWA and the customer landscape can be monitored from Solution manager.
Scripts are available for Linux and Windows both. (except for sap host agent installation and copying file to different location nothing else changes)
