SAP has developed an alternative to the Enterprise Portal that can be used with HCM applications. The Netweaver Business Client offers a desktop client that includes the ability to host classic and Web dynpros, Business Server Pages and portal integration with role-based access. With the release of the latest Enhancement Packs, new roles have been developed for use with SAP Human Capital Management applications.
SAP Netweaver Business Client consists of a shell that contains the main navigation areas with a content area that includes the imbedded dynpro applications. It can be downloaded to a user’s desktop or be presented in a browser through the use of HTML. Corporate branding is available in NWBC. SAP Netweaver Business Client requires SAP Netweaver Web Application Server 7.31, Netweaver Business Client for Desktop 3.5, and SAP GUI for Windows 7.20 PL8.
NWBC allows the use of transaction PFCG for role creation that gives users specific access in the shell. For HCM, SAP has created roles for use with the Talent Management Suite and other applications. These roles include:
- Recruiting Administrator
- HR Administrator
- Talent Management Specialist
- Course Administrator
With the development of SAP HCM Talent Management Suite and its utilization of the portal, NWBC can be an excellent alternative. Most users cannot tell the difference between the two.
