It seemed that anywhere you went in the SAP Ecosystem in 2011 people were talking about HANA, HANA, HANA.

Rightfully so. HANA is our new infrastructure and architecture. It’s the future of SAP, and 2011 was the year we fully introduced it to our Ecosystem and the world.

For all the buzz though, 2011 was still mostly about the art of the possible for HANA. We saw amazing results from early partner and industry adopters, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg. Prepare to be blown away as we ‘cross the chasm’ with HANA in 2012. As we unleash our co-innovation partners in the HANA development environment and the Ecosystem starts building applications, the spotlight will shift from the box itself to all the amazing things partners are doing for our mutual customers with it.

For example, here’s a peek at integration that’s coming down the pipe from Oversight Systems that perfectly illustrates the convergence of transactional and analytical processing that HANA enables.

Atlanta, Georgia-based Oversight is the only Continuous Transaction Monitoring SAP-Endorsed Business Solution, and one of a small handful of technology co-innovation partners we’ve selected to develop on HANA.

Oversight software works like a team of virtual analysts, helping companies such British Petroleum, Coca-Cola and Grainger improve operational and financial performance by analyzing terabytes and terabytes of transactional data on a daily basis. Oversight indentifies variances in the data that could potentially be red flags for wasteful, non-compliant, or fraudulent transactions.

For example, many customers use Oversight to identify excessive discounting on sales orders. Traditional relational database processing time for these complex analytics can take hours to complete. Companies can root out fraud pretty darn quickly, but still after the fact.

With HANA horsepower at the database level, that hours-long processing time can be reduced to a few minutes. The Oversight HANA application will let customers identify excessive discounting, sub-optimal terms, duplicate payments and the like in real time, where recognition and response can have a direct and immediate impact on the bottom line. It will actually be possible to stop fraud before any actual loss occurs.

Did I mention this will all be available for mobile devices? That’s the plan.

“We are extremely pleased to have been selected by SAP as a strategic HANA Co-Innovation partner.  Working with SAP HANA, we can now deliver the same business benefits, in real time” says GeoffCoulehan, Vice President, West, at Oversight.

At SAP, we can’t wait to see what else Oversight, our other partners, and the partners we haven’t met yet will innovate on HANA. 2012 is going to be a very exciting year!
