Retail Forecast: CLOUD-y with 90% chance of Increased Productivity

By: Carol Mackenzie, Programs Principal at SAP

So, here we are again, deep in the throes of 2011 reflection and 2012 planning.  Chances are you are looking at your technology expenses for the umpteenth time and having to propose something to the management team on how and where to cut, while bringing new innovation to the enterprise.

As a retailer, your competitive edge has been steeped in your proprietary pricing policies, customer engagement model, and ability to see redundancies in business processes – and take action.  It’s in your DNA to hold tight to your chest these apple-pie fundamentals.

Taking a cue from other industries, though, is something to consider when looking for expense reduction opportunities, and driving innovation.  A myriad of other industries such as defense, pharmaceuticals, telecomm all have policies, processes, data that must be secure, just like you.  Cloud computing has arrived to these industries, and is starting to get serious consideration from retailers – today’s cloud is secure, transparent, and cost-effective.

SAP’s strategy is to provide leading retail solutions, on premise, on device, and on demand.  Case in point,  SAP’s recent acquisition of cloud-based HCM solutions (SuccessFactors) demonstrates exactly how seriously we are providing cloud technology for you.   Come talk cloud to us at NRF’s Big Show, Booth # 1712.
