Now that 2012 is upon us, I wanted to list a few things I’d like to see in the SCN community in 2012 in regards to SAP HCM. Hopefully the new SCN will encourage people to contribute more, so maybe this blog can give people some more ideas.

More SAP HCM Blogs

HR is the strategic business partner of the organization. 21st century HR is no longer about maintaining bank details and arranging changes of address, it is now about strategic recruitment, workforce development and operational efficiency of those compulsory HR transactions.

In a conversation I had with Jarret Pazahanick, he pointed out that the level of blogging in SAP HCM was quite low. While HCM was one of the last major modules of SAP ERP, I think it has grown enough in the last 15 years to warrant more contributions in the blogging space. As a Talent Management consultant, I’d particularly like to see more blogs on this topic. There are also a whole host of topics that can be covered, from employee self-service and EIC to Talent Management to How To’s. There are even a whole host of topics that I wouldn’t think of, which is why I’d like to see more content on SCN.

More contributions about Visualization Solutions by Nakisa (VSN)

As a specialist in this area, it is the only specific area I am focusing on in this blog. Currently there have only been 3 people who have written blogs about VSN on SCN. I would like to see more blogs from these contributors, as well as from consultants who are based in other major territories such as the US, APAC and South America.

Currently the SCN Forum for VSN (SAP Talent Visualization by Nakisa) only has 2 or 3 contributors. I would like to see some others flex their experience and knowledge to help people out.

Using Ideas Place

I recently created an Ideas Place space for VSN suggestions. When I did this I noticed how little content there was for SAP HCM. I want to see more people making suggestions for SAP HCM as I believe this will drive change within SAP. SAP are not going to pay attention to Ideas Place if there are only 1 or 2 ideas on there.

Coverage of major events

I don’t see a lot of coverage about events like HR2012 and SAPPHIRE in the SAP HCM space. I want to see more! A lot of the major players in SAP HCM go to these events, so I want them to get blogging!

So, what sort of blogs can I write?

There are a whole host of topics, but I’ll suggest some to make it easier for you:

  • Implementation tips and pitfalls
  • How To’s
  • Thoughts on certain functionalities
  • Implementation experiences and customer case studies
  • Common configurations and customizations
  • New/common SAP notes
  • … and much more!

Summary

I wanted to keep my list short, since you can’t get everything if you’re greedy, and I hope that this blogs inspires some more content on the SCN this year. Don’t be shy, we want to hear your thoughts!

Really enjoyed this blog as there is a real opportunity for more people to contribute to SAP HCM as many areas are very under-represented and it is a shame. I am hoping the new SAP SCN will make it easier to blog and get more people engaged but time will tell.

PS – I have written 13 blogs on ERP EIC so that isnt one of the areas 🙂

      Hi Jarret,

Thanks for your comments – they are much appreciated.

Regarding EIC – I should’ve done my homework before writing that. Next time I’ll pick a better example!

      Best regards,

      Luke
