How to Add Fields to the Change Request UI (MDG EhP6)

The enhanced capabilities coming with SAP NetWeaver 7.03 provide a great way to change the layout and information shown in Web Dynpro UIs easily and just by configuration. With SAP Master Data Governance we are adopting these new capabilities. As a first step in EhP6, we enhanced the UIs of MDG for Supplier, Customer, and Material with them. Check out this article and recorded demo to get an impression of a few things you can do with that.

Do you know of any one who has used MDG as a help ticket like Solman's service desk?
      thanks,
      David

      Hi David,
MDG was designed for governing master data and not as a general purpose service desk solution. Besides it may be possible - depending on your requirements - to support this with MDG, I can hardly believe it is the solution you are looking for. However, what we have in place is an integration of MDG with our solution for Financial Shared Service Centers (FSSC) to support the change process of master data triggered by a service ticket from FSSC.
      Best,
      Andreas

      Hi
I was wondering whether a Solman Service Desk ticket could be automatically opened when a CR is created from within MDG. This would be a way to provide visibility to the outside world on a CR. Also, whether the ticket in Service Desk could be closed when a CR is closed in MDG. If so, how? Also, it appears to be a addon to MM when it is not standalone; would you characterize that MDG is running on the ECC stack rather than on Netweaver?

      Thanks

      Hi Saumyendra,
there is not Service Desk and MDG integration available out of the box. Although it is not possible for me to provide any consulting for the integration of Service Desk and MDG, I think it should be possible to build this with reasonable effort on a project basis.
Please check out the MDG extensibility center here: Embedded Master Data Management

Maybe you also had the possibility to listen to the TechEd 2011 session "EIM301 - Applying Information Governance in End-To-End MDM Scenarios" of my colleague Lars Rüter. Here Lars explained how you can integrate MDG with other components to create even more comprehensive end-to-end solutions.

On the "stack" question: Technically speaking, MDG runs von ECC, which runs on NetWeaver.

If your questions is more into the direction of deployment: You can run MDG as part of your operational ECC, or you can deploy it as a separate system/client (MDG as a hub). Again, please check out the information we provide in the MDG area of SDN (see above).

      Best regards,
      Andreas

      Hi

Thank you for your earlier response. We are planning to deploy MDG-M on an existing ECC MM implementation. We have a few custom ztables as part of the MM solution. How do we do the Data Model for MDG so that change requests can be created on data elements which are part of the ztables and not SAP native tables like MARA?

      Thanks
      Saumyendra

      Hi Saumyendra,

as this is a common requirement for MDG for Material, we provide you with the required configuration steps and precedures in a dedicated document, the "Central guide for SAP MDG-M extensibility".
You find it in the Extensibility Center at the end of the Embedded Master Data Management.

      Kind regards,
      Andreas
