Welcome to the new SAP Community Network! (SCN)   There has been a great deal of anticipation and preparation for the launch of this new and improved platform.  We’ve had a beta test open for about 1,000 Area Managers, Moderators, SAP Mentors, and SAP Employees to pound on the system and track down as many bugs as possible before we open the doors.  In the mean time, the whole community has been buzzing with anticipation for the big launch day.

But if that wasn’t exciting enough, we want to add some special “sweetness” to the launch that’s open to ALL Community Members.  As with any new system, there will be some start up tasks to accomplish to get yourself rolling.SAP TechEd Logo for Blog.jpg

To make it more interesting, we’re giving away a FREE SAP TechEd 2012 REGISTRATION to one (1) lucky winner who completes the “Top Ten” Mission in the first month after go live.  That’s right, if you complete the “Top Ten” Mission by April 12, 2012, you will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a free admission to the 2012 SAP TechEd of your choice!   As you know, SAP TechEd is one of the best events SAP offers to meet the community live, learn about new and existing products, and participate in group events.

So what is the “Top 10” Mission?  Follow these steps and you will be well on your way to being active in the community and have the chance to win admission to the SAP TechEd of your choice!

Here are the 10 steps in the “Top 10” Mission:Chip Profile.jpg

  1. Log in and pick a new user name.
  2. Update your profile and upload your profile picture.  (See excellent blog by Pat Flanders with 6 tips for your profile picture.)
  3. Configure your profile visibility. (What do you want others to see?)
  4. Go to preferences and configure things like email notifications.
  5. Find your old forums in the new spaces and “follow” them.
  6. If you have written blogs in SCN, move at least one from the Personal blog space to the appropriate topic space. (Hint:  You can only move blogs to spaces you are following.) If you’ve never blogged, try out the create blog functionality. It’s so much easier than before!
  7. Find and follow the people you care about.
  8. Invite others to the community, interesting spaces and content.
  9. Update your status and let people know you’re “official” as a new SCN member!
  10. Bookmark this blog to be entered in the drawing!

So get started soon and wrap up before our announced deadline!

If you have questions or comments, please post them to this blog.

Good luck to you all and see you at SAP TechEd 2012!

Maybe it’s because I’m late to the party, but right after “Share” I can see a twitter icon. Don’t know about your corporate directory though…

How do I pick a new username? I have one already, but I would actually like to change it. I don’t see how…

I’ve done all of the other steps:-)

The answer SAPNetwork@sap.com gave me some day back was that “in the new technology your display name is made up by your first name/last name in your profile”.  And indeed I see it is.  There is nowhere a display name to be found. (There is in Idea Place however, but not editable).

Hi Vikram, thanks for your replies. I am still unsure. I tried the “Share” button, but there I can only send messages to people who follow me.Chip, please help out! What do you mean with “Invite people”, who do I do that in the new SCN?

          1. Chip Rodgers Post author

Hi Mark, sorry for any confusion.  I didn’t mean anything special, other than to let your friends know about SCN and if you think they’d enjoy connecting in SCN, suggest they join.  Could be by sending an email to colleagues you think could benefit from SCN, posting a Twitter message to your followers, posting on Facebook, on a blog, or in other places where you see folks talking about SAP.  There’s no formal system or process inside SCN for doing that… just encouraging everyone to get the word out!

            Thanks for participating!

You have a option to chnage your first and last names the user Id then gets changed . If you wish to continue with your old user name then you can continue with it. Or you can just go and create a new user account, but let say if you have any points assigned to the old user ID you can’t consolidate them right now. It seems still this feature or option is under progress… For more queries right to sapnetwork@sap.com.

There was a way in forum’s to go to next and previous discussions, which is missing now. Please add that feature to go through the discussions.

    Best regards,

The new SCN has made things very easy to express and present, now by simply pasting the image you can present the issue for expert advice.. Thanks to the whole team who were involved in every part of these new features..

Yes I completed my Mission 😛

I felt  in this mission you should have also included one more activity asking members to bookmark this document SCN Site Index by doing in that way at least new members or members who are feeling hard to navigate SCN would had a glimpse of the whole site.
