There was again – as in Vegas and Bangalore – high interest in the Portal lectures, hands-on sessions and live expert sessions. The pods were very crowded with a lecture-like atmosphere and lively interactive discussions:

There was also a strong interest in the new innovative areas such as “Portal on Device” or “Portal on Demand”. We also had very good talks with customers at our networking sessions.
And we would like to thank the SAP Mentors Tobias Hofmann and Robert Briese for their support at various sessions.

And by the way: Madrid was also a wonderful place to spend the weekend after TechEd…

Portal on Demand: Participate in the Beta Program

On Demand Portal is a project code name for a cloud-based solution that enables business users to quickly and easily create sites. On Demand Portal is based on SAP Cloud Platform for Java-based applications and SAP HANA. This solution provides out-of-the-box secure and accelerated integration with customers’ on-premise system, allowing for content reuse. SAP Cloud Platform and SAP HANA – together with SAP Gateway – provide the means for developing new innovative applications that are deployed to the cloud and easily embedded into the sites.

The solution is planned to be available for private Beta evaluation in Q1 2012. Release is planned for mid-2012.

Note: We are inviting interested customers to join a pre-release beta version for the SAP Portal On Demand new solution, to evaluate, learn and discuss business scenarios, product usability and new features. By participating in the beta program you will get to learn about the new Portal On Demand offering, influence future development of the product, and most important sharing your experience.
For more information see this wiki page on SDN SAP Portal on Demand.

Sneak Preview “Portal on Device 2012”

And there is another new project we are working on to bring SAP NetWeaver Portal to the next level of innovation: “Portal on Device”, which will make SAP NetWeaver Portal accessible on mobile devices. An official release of this exiting new Portal capability is planned for 2012. But already now you can get an impression of what you can expect.
A software package and a related document are available for you. You can use both as an example to check how to implement portal on device. In this way you can see a preview of the new developments coming out-of-the-box in a future version of SAP NetWeaver Portal.

The software package is available on the Code Exchange area of SDN. The following guide accompanies the software package “SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3: Introduction to Portal on Device”. This guide explains the “Portal on Device” concept and enables you to create your own portal on device implementation.

New: SAP Portal Content Management By OpenText

In a move that makes it easier for customers to manage documents and website content within the SAP NetWeaver Portal component, SAP has expanded its relationship with OpenText, a leader in enterprise content management.
The agreement adds two new applications to SAP NetWeaver Portal, which were developed by SAP together with OpenText: the SAP Portal Content Management application by OpenText, an enterprise solution for managing document-related content; and the SAP Portal Site Management application by OpenText, a solution helping a broad number of users easily manage Web content.
