It seems the 7th billion baby born in the world is from India (I wonder if they ran HANA to do the analysis on that data or if it was just that they found India a better choice to bet on than China). India’s population is over 1.2 Billion making a fair probability that you will run into one of us in your lifetime. Now when you eventually run into us, you will find that we are a friendly lot. Some of us might seem grumpy, but let me reveal a simple trick on how you can make friends with ‘any’ Indian. All you need to say is, “Namaste! I am a big fan of Sachin Tendulkar“.

Many claim that Don Bradman is the greatest batsman of all time. But if cricket was a religion, then Sachin definitely is the God. I am no cricket fanatic, but if Sachin is playing it is hard for me to resist watching the game.

Today, the whole of India and many cricket fans across the world are eagerly anticipating one thing, the 100th International Century by Sachin. Hundred Hundreds, imagine that!

Now you folks might be wondering why am I talking about cricket and the ‘God’. Before you stop reading and mark this as spam, let me tell you that I have found some common ground.

In June, 2011, SAP PI got a session in Yes…. They are listening! SAP PI Idea Session is now live!. Since then there has been a lot of enthusiasm generated around this and we have had many contributing to this session.

It is appreciable when the product vendor is keen to absorb ideas from  its users and embedding them into the product thus constantly improving it. I do  hope SAP keeps up that focus and frequently review the contributions by  many in forums like Idea place.

SAP Process Integration Idea Place Highlights for me;

1. SFTP adapter is being delivered by SAP in the 7.31 release

2. REST Adapter idea is now under review by SAP

3. There we a suggestions around increasing the B2B functionality of PI. I hear that SAP is planning the release of many Announcement: B2B adapters for SAP NetWeaver PI next year.

My personal top 3 favorites;

1. Better Alerting capabilities in PI

2. Enhancements to the File adapter

3. Localized DB access for PI

As of today the statistics of the Process Integration session is as follows;

So the question that I have is, “Who do you think will reach that ‘100’ Milestone first?

PS: Looking forward to see many more ideas being published and many more votes coming in!

    Hi,

    as an active participant in the GSIG for PI, International Focus Group for Integration, I was a bit confuced about the usage of Idea Place as its not really connected to the program management of PI at SAP.
    In our annual meeting in Brussel this was discussed with SAP and the IdeaPlace was not connected to any developments or so.

    As blogged on SDN before, the big collaboration we have for future enhancements in PI is performed in the GSIG.
    We performed the big PI Survey that has been the input for SAP for structural issues and now we are ongoing with the next function releases for PI.
    The best way of influencing, and not just wishing, is to participate through the requirement list:
    Global GSIG Requirement List 2011/2012 for PI
    This is delivered directly to pm at SAP and last year we had a delivery rate at around 80%…
    As a member of a usergroup you all have the possibility to make things happen… and as a part of SAP Mentor, Michal or Daniel is your contact for the requirement list.

    The IdeaPlace is just ideas, but those needs to be realized and this is done by the GSIG collaboration.

      i am a bit surprised by this comment 🙂

      From what i understand the GSIG is not the only forum to get product improvements in place. Idea place seems to be more open and accommodating of contributors world wide. SAP does seem to be investing in Idea place and if if your statement that “The IdeaPlace is just ideas, but those needs to be realized and this is done by the GSIG collaboration.” is true then it would have been a waste of time and money for many who are involved.

      As I am informed, Idea Place is run by SAP as a global transparent session for like minded professionals to expose, validate ideas and collaborate. The commitment from SAP is to review and provide feedback on the highly voted ideas.

      So I believe it is important that GSIG & Idea place go hand in hand.

      Regards,
      Shabz

      OH NO!!!!

      Idea place has helped change many different products.  Idea place itself, SCN, and more.

      I’ve found the “SAP People” really responsive.  I’m with Shabz.

      I’m very surprised at this comment.  Those bunch of ideas can turn into an SAP enhancement / future change.  The more people that vote it up the more attention the idea gets.

        Michelle, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on SAP Idea Place! You have captured the “idea” of Idea Place so well. Thanks again!

      Hi Pontus,

      Thanks for bringing this up. It’s a great opportunity to clear the confusion.

      SAP NetWeaver Idea Place was requested by top contributors of the PI community and initiated for the PI community.  It is a global session for like-minded PI professionals to collaborate, connect and share. It gives an open platform where PI professionals can test and validate their ideas, by submitting own ideas for voting and comments, as well as vote and comment on ideas of others. SAP has committed resources to review the most popular ideas and provide feedback to all participants.

      SAP has facilitated this as an additional channel for open collaboration and influencing, which won’t in any way shadow GSIG initiatives or processes. Everyone can choose if they are willing to use only GSIG or influence through both Idea Session and GSIG.

      As you say the delivery rate achieved by GSIG last year was around 80%. This can only add value since ‘top needs’ would show up in both sources. Why wouldn’t we aim higher by going hand in hand?

      Thanks again and I look forward to your feedback!
      Kind regards,
      Mariana

      Hi,

      no offense taken by all your thoughts 🙂 sometimes a more challenging post gets more attentions 🙂

      My thought is basically to get a view to something that was started up a a few months ago compared to the emense work carried out in the usergroups worldwide in DSAG, ASUG, SAPSA, VSNG, SAPbience etc etc. with thousands of participants, and channeled in our monthly meetings with PI product management at SAP. Note also thet the GSIG is not a standalone group, but a collaboration of usergroup SIG’s worldwide.
      Make sure that I’m NOT against product development and future functions, ’cause usergroup SIG (focusgroup) and the GSIG engagement is my main “hobby” besides my normal work.

      Thanks Mariana for joining the topic and making some things clearer, and yes, our goal is to get the grade up but not just by numbers but also to qualify the requirements and make sure that requirements to specific industrial areas also gets the attention to strenghten the usage of PI.

      I have also been reading and posting on the IdeaPlace as a part of my curiosity so Im not a newbee to that workspace. I am also helping some local Swedish SIG’s to collaborate in a GSIG manner globally using the Customer Connection part of IdeaPlace. As I have been working closely to one of the SUGEN representatives I have seen great things happen in many areas.
      The GSIG will probably also move in there further on but right now we felt that the processes we have ongoing for this years requirement were more mature then changing this in the last minute.

      As we met with the product management for PI in end of September they were not sure about the usage of IdeaPlace as that was not an initiative they have taken. Let us see how we can make sure that PI can become the best platform further on 🙂

      But what is important is how good any idea or requirement is actually followed up in the respective branches and in the end reaches the right people.
