Open Innovation is a paradigm that assumes that firms can and should use external ideas as well as internal ideas, and internal and external paths to market, as the firms look to advance their technology. Open Innovation combines internal and external ideas into architectures and systems whose requirements are defined by a business model. Henry Chesbrough, Open Innovation: The New Imperative (2003)

I’m responsible for designing a new mobile app for SAP customers. The new mobile app is intended for improving productivity of planning, building and running SAP solutions and we would like to invite you to innovate with us.

Mobile is here! It is no longer a niche and is being recognized as having a tremendous impact on workforce productivity. Recent trends show that more than 50% of the newly sold phones are smart phones; ~60% of US population consume mobile internet and 3G penetrations grows at a very fast rate; mobile internet devices(Smartphones + tablets) outshipped PCs(notebooks + desktops) in Q4:10. I could dump some additional statistic information on you but I think that the message is clear and cannot be ignored.

We are on a very early phase of our design project and are ready to explore any idea. It could be a mobile interface to Solution Manager, a collaborative project management app, a knowledge base or it could be something completely different.

I would like to urge you to use the comments section of this blog to share with us ideas for mobile apps that can help you during SAP implementation. Tell us how does mobile supports you today? What else would you like to see?

How can we leverage mobile capabilities such cellular, camera, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, touch UI, to increase productivity?

Please share your ideas and comment on ideas from others.

People that will post the most interesting ideas will be invited to continue co-innovate with us and participate in the design of the new mobile app.
