I was going through a blog and abruptly this idea popped up in my mind that how an industry knowledge makes you to become a good an meanigful adviser of your client.

Yes this is true, that blog was also indicating as some client doesn’t know what SAP is all about but they are very well versed with the business functions and once we put our technological edge SAP( As Best Run Business Run SAP) with it, It will give them best in class service.

Now I want to Jump on my planet again, EIM- MDM. For a manufacturing industry client we could figure out few of their issues & concerns in one shot as it was related to some of their key master data domains.

  1. Keeping the non- adderess info in adderess fields, due to multiple systems where customer were maintained and multiple manufacturing locations (Customer domain)
  2. For some of customers the global policies were not consistent,as some customer can ask for global sales volumn etc (Customer domain)
  3. Attributes were not consistent across SKU’s for similar product (Material domain)

Here above were just the few points i could figure out when dealt with this client during initial phase of  project. It became very smooth ongoing solution development for us right from repository data modelling to distribution to target systems as many things were based on this.

Yes, It is always a good idea to get more concern industry knowledge if you are helping your client to maintain and manage their master data, as it is a life blood for them which flows through out on their systems either plant, sales etc.

Here one of the succes story of a Oil and Gas company can also be seen in which they talked about how SAP MDM helped them to create first step of service oriented architecture on their landscape.
