Welcome at the SAP on IBM i update! This time I’d like to draw your attention to an IBM Redbook on virtualisation and to a new kernel option for 4.6C systems.
In the draft area of IBM’s Redbook site a new version of the IBM Redbook SAP Applications on IBM PowerVM has been made available just recently. Describing the virtualization options of the hardware and its implications with SAP applications, this second version is a major step forward for our platform as it now gets also explicit for IBM i.
You may have recognized that SAP on IBM i did not provide binaries for the 4.6D_EX2 area in the past. This has changed! 4.6D_EX2 is built on IBM i 7.1 and can be used for IBM i 5.4 and higher.
In addition, the process to import a stack kernel has been simplifed for all flavors of the 4.6D kernel: You can now download and install a single package R3OPT for the complete kernel instead of gluing several pieces together. Check SAP note 732453 for the details (after you logged into SMP, of course ;-).
As the development team intends to maintain a consistent format, editions of the series will continue to be published on my name. Set feeds accordingly if you are interested in following the series.
