I took a long break from programming during the last few years, as I have been heavily involved in doing product definition and bringing products to market. But recently, since I have been focusing on Developer’s enablement, I decided to go back to coding. I forgot how great this ‘hands on’ feeling is, creating code, compiling it and seeing it in action. The kind of feeling a ‘stranger’ (D.B. people that are not developers) wouldn’t understand. That’s why I’m excited to see the number of events at this coming SAP TechEd in Las Vegas that provide true ‘hands on’ access to existing SAP technologies as well as to new technologies that are not yet delivered or are in pilot shipment. I thought of collecting those opportunities for you all, the ‘hands on’ freaks:
Hands on workshops – there are over 130 sessions of two-hour and four-hour hands-on workshops that are instructor-led and may include hands-on learning and applicable exercises. You may need to share a laptop with someone else (great opportunity to share experiences). These workshops fill out quickly as this is probably one of the best ways to get first hand access to SAP products.
SAP InnoJam – this event is becoming a tradition at SAP (last year it was called Innovation Weekend), with about 150 participants, 5-6 SAP technologies and 30 hours of coding. The goal is to create a real running application in one day, overcome difficulties and find workarounds, if needed. This year’s theme is gamification and Enterprise software. It would be very interesting to see what comes out of it. The final demo presentations take place on Monday, at 7 P.M. at the Palazzo Congress Center (by registration).
Demo Jam – this is a competition presented on the main stage (Palazzo Ballroom) where participants have 6 minutes to present a demo of the innovation they’ve created over the last few weeks and months (to be judged by the audience), a very energetic event! Check out some of the demo names: O2H, Brainwave, ChartBase, Awesome notification, InnoBoard, and more.
Test Drive Area – you will notice an area in the middle of the show floor where attendees will get to try out SAP technologies such as HANA, Mobility Platform (SUP) and applications, Data Management, Cloud platforms. You will also be able to meet the SAP IT team who will be presenting their implementations of SAP products. In addition, you’ll get access to pre released technologies through the labs area. Definitely worthwhile visiting so look for it.
Koffee with Gurus – Teched (Las Vegas) – an informal meeting with SAP developers that are behind some of the most exciting products. I would not settle for talking to them but would ask them to open their IDEs and show you some of the real code they are working on right now! Maybe you can help them find bugs (-; some of the topics: Business Objects 4.0, River and cloud, HANA Database services, ABAP, Java and beyond. This will take place on Wednesday [2 to 5p.m], Thursday [3:30 to 5p.m] at Veronese 2406 (second floor), Venetian.
