How Big Is The Green Data Management IT Market?
Maanya Condamoor, in a guest post at Doc’s Green Blog, says the market for Green Data Management IT is about two billion dollars today, and is expected to grow to $5 billion by 2013 (according to consultants Forrester, although she tried to reconcile the various estimates and projections that have been published).
SAP is a leader in this segment, and “sustainability software” generated triple-digit million euro sales for the firm in 2010. (According to Daniel Schmid, vice president of sustainability operations, quoted in the Bloomberg article cited by Condamoor.) It was one of SAP’s fastest-growing lines last year.
Green Data Management products and services are still a small part of the overal enterprise IT business, but the need to accumulate and manage green data, respond to environmental and health & safety regulations, and use IT to improve sustainability permeates all organizations today. According to Condamoor’s post and the sources cited, this market is growing much faster than the enterprise IT market as a whole.
