Competitor Watch: Oracle Launches Environmental Accounting & Reporting
This press release announces Oracle’s introduction of carbon accounting and emissions reporting products based on Ndevr assets it recently acquired. The tools are “provided as an option for the Oracle E-Business Suite Financials and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Financial Management.” “The Environmental Accounting and Reporting modules manage this function from within the existing ERP system, and utilize Oracle Business Intelligence to provide immediate insight into an organization’s environmental data to identify and manage CO2 and cost reduction opportunities”.
Most companies implement carbon accounting and emissions tracking functions when they
- Must assemble such data to comply with regulatory requirements, and/or
- Want to achieve cost savings by more closely tracking energy consumption.
As a secondary benefit of carbon accounting they may be able to report through their own sustainability reports (see SAP’s report here), or through reporting schemes like the Carbon Disclosure Project or the Global Reporting Initiative, gaining additional transparency points.
SAP offers a range of “Solutions for Sustainability”, some of which are found here.
