Continuing from my last blog, Caboodle – Part 6 – BOBJ4 Client Tools Install

What I thought would be an easy install, turned out not to be. In this blog, I document the download, install, and testing of the latest Live Office SP1. There is a Patch at level 6, but again, I have heard that, unless a Patch fixes an issue you have, do not install it. Comments welcome.

Update 23.08.2011: Live Office does not recognize Office 2010. It thinks it is not the latest version, therefore, cannot be installed.

Update 29.07.2011: Live Office is now on SP2. However, the procedure below should be the same. (I have not explicitly checked). The non existence of any previous SP indicates that this can be a clean install (without any previous SPs).

Download

Unlike most SPs I have installed, SP1 requires the original SP0. This is what happens if you try to put SP1 on without SP0.

So you can find SP0 here in the SMP

Software Downloads->Installations and Upgrades->Browse our Download Catalog->SAP BusinessObjects portfolio->SBOP BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE PLATFORM (SBOP ENTERPRISE)->SBOP BI PLATFORM 4.0->Installation and Upgrade->WINDOWS

and SP1 found here in the SMP

Software Downloads->Support Packages and Patches->Browse our Download Catalog->SAP BusinessObjects portfolio->SBOP BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE PLATFORM (SBOP ENTERPRISE)->SBOP BI PLATFORM 4.0->Compromised Software Component Versions->SBOP LIVE OFFICE 4.0->Windows Server on A32 32bit

Install

I installed MS Office to fulfill the prerequisites. Although, the Product Availability Matrix only shows support up to MS Office 2007, it did not stop me from trying 2010.

I already had .net 3.5 framework present (another prerequisite).

I first tried with 64bit MS Office, but the installer simply did not recognize the existence of MS Office.

So I uninstalled and tried with the 32bit MS Office 2010, and all went in fine. FYI, MS Office 2007 does not have a 64bit version, so it goes without saying that MS Office 2007 (32bit by default) will work with XI4 Live Office.

My MS Office install selection contained “Excel”, “PowerPoint” (for later when installing Analysis for Office, not required now for Live Office)

and “Visual Basic for Applications” (again for later when installing Analysis for Office, not required now for Live Office)

So after extracting the downloaded files, I found, and ran the “setup.exe” as Administrator.

I kept the default setup language

“OK”

the prerequisites were met

“Next”

“Next”

“Next”

I accepted the license

“Next”

This is weird, sometimes I get an option to change the destination folder, and others, it’s like this, disabled.

“Next”

Left it as “English”

“Next”

I chose “Custom” to show you

“Next”

Here are the default options, of which I kept

“Next”

“Next”

Off it goes

20 minutes later, “Finish”

In Control Panel->Programs and Features

That’s it, all installed

Testing

I started Excel

and now we have the “Live Office” tab

So now I’ll do all the same again, except with the SP1.

Install SP1

I ran the “setup.exe” from the decompressed download file.

But soon found that I had to re-boot the VM.

After re-booting and running the “setup.exe” again, I was good to go.

The remaining installation was, as with the original setup, so there is nothing new to show in between.

In Control Panel->Programs and Features

That’s about it.
