The Determine the SOA readiness of your System with the ES Workplace (Part 1) of this blog describes the new data and information available on the ES Enterprise Services Workplace (ES Workplace). In the second part I will now describe how you can easily determine the SOA readiness of your system. Pre-requisite is that you have identified the Enterprise Services you would like to use in your SOA project. The ES Workplace can then determine the minimum Product Version that will be required on your system and the Business Functions that have to be activated to make all Services available.

If you have already used the ES Workplace Basket then you will know that you can add almost all entity types into your personal basket, just like in a shopping cart on a procurement platform.

The idea is to add all the Enterprise Services you intend to use in your SOA-Project into your personal ES Workplace Basket. When you open your ES Workplace basket you will find the new button Show System Requirements.

The new feature Show System Requirements provides a whole lot of useful technical information which you previously had to manually assemble and document with the help of a table processing tool. The first table lists all Enterprise Services in your basket and provides important Technical Prerequisites for each Service.

Verify the Release State of each Service. The Software Component Versions, Business Functions and Technical Usages are listed for your information and will be used in the next two tables in this report. The second table aggregates the list of all minimum required Software Component Versions and indicates the lowest SAP Product Version that contains all the listed SWCVs.

And finally, the third table provides all the information vital for the provisioning of the Enterprise Services in your system. If you have to install an Enhancement Package then your IT must select the listed Technical Usages during the installation procedure. After the installation of the Enhancement Package your system administrator will have to activate the listed Business Functions. Some industry specific Business Functions are available only after the Business Function Set stated in the list has been selected.

Here is an easy to digest flow diagram showing the steps required to make the best use of this important technical System Requirements report with the help of the enhanced ES Workplace:

Enjoy working with this new functionality now publicly available on the ES Workplace .
