Have you ever missed a search tool in ERP that gives you quick access to the most relevant material information with a few clicks?

I mean: availability in selected plants, prices, customer discount, scales, margin, last sales orders, basic data, purchasing info, etc.

Then the “Material Information”is the answer you have been waiting for!

The transaction MATERIAL_INFO is one of the latest Sales Order Enhancement Series: Overview in SD introduced with Enhancement Package 5. It leverages the great enhancements “Enhanced Material Search with Creation – Part 1: Overview, Enrichment of Search Results with Prices and Stock Availability” and “Sales Order Enhancement Series: The Material View“, which are called by the Material Info.

Calling the Material Information

All you have to do is to call the transaction MATERIAL_INFO and fill out the start parameters which are required for calling the “Enhanced Material Search with Creation – Part 1: Overview, Enrichment of Search Results with Prices and Stock Availability” and “Sales Order Enhancement Series: The Material View“.

Material_Info

This example is taken from an SAP Retail system, but it runs on every Standard ERP with EhP5. To speed up the entry of start parameters you can save your parameter sets as “variants” (see image).

You can use the Material Info for purchasing and sales related information. Please note that the Material View only supports the sales side, while the Enhanced Material Search supports both sales and purchasing.

Calling the Material View

When entering a valid material number in the field “Material” (here: article) here you can call the Material View:

Material_View

Calling the Enhanced Material Search

When entering a valid material number OR a full text search term in the field “Material” (here: article) here you can call the Enhanced Material Search:

Enhanced_Material_Search

Of course within the Enhanced Material Search you cannot create materials, add search results to the sales order or purchase order, because you are not really in a sales/purchase order. The Material Info parameters only simulate an order environment to get the information, not more

OK, how can I get the Material Info?

  1. Activate the business functions in ERP 6.0 EhP5:
                        – LOG_MM_CI_3: for MM implementation
                        – LOG_SD_CI_02: for SD implementaton
                        – ISR_RETAIL_ENH_MAT_SEARCH (for SAP Retail;
activates the MM and SD business functions above)
  2. Implement the Sales Order Enhancement Series: The Material View and/or
  3. Implement the Enhanced Material Search with Creation – Part 1: Overview, Enrichment of Search Results with Prices and Stock Availability (Enhanced Material Search with Creation – Part 2: Catalog Search for Supplier Products is optional)

Now you can use the Material Information application. That’s it!

Enjoy and post your experiences with the Material Info!

I have been familiar with the Material View functionality for over 5 years now. We used our own custom ZMATINFO transaction before the new MATERIAL_INFO came out.

It’s good to see it’s standard now.

I’ve noticed an issue with it, though. If you call up material view from within the sales order, it will show margin $ and margin %, if so configured. MATERIAL_INFO will not show those. Apparently, the values are being pulled in from the sales order in VA01/02/03 and in the stand-alone transaction they’re simply initial.

Has this issue been brought up before? I can’t find any OSS notes on the topic. Any chance this will get addressed in the near future?

I would recommend building in some additional logic in class: CL_WSD_MAT_INFO, method GET_SALES_PRICES, similarly to how list prices are handled.

      Hi Lucasz,

the calculation of the margin is often company specific. Therefore a BAdI is provided to implement a customer specific algorithm, to show the calculated margin in the Material View.

You can find the BAdI in IMG > Sales &Distribution > Basic Functions > Additional Functions for Material > Enhancements using Business Add-Ins > Business Add-Ins for Material View > BAdI: Calculation of Contribution Margin.

      Best regards,

      Ingo

Thanks for the quick reply Ingo.

The BADI you mentioned won’t help unfortunately as it is called when material view is trying to get last sales orders (Class WSD_MAT_INFO, method GET_LAST_ORDERS) and from VA01/02/03 (MV45AF0F_FCODE_MATVIEW).

What I was talking about was the 2 fields in the Sales Prices tab of the material view screen (next to the last sales orders tab).

          Hi Lucasz,

this is a bug that needs to be fixed. The BAdI was exactly intended to display the margin on the Sales Prices tab.

May I ask you to write an OSS ticket on component SD-MD-MM-CS to get this fixed? You can refer to my reply.

          Thank you and best regards,

          Ingo
