Global search in SAP Sourcing 7

In E-Sourcing 5.1 clauses, legacy contracts and agreements were searchable from the main workbench using search technology enable by the KM Portal usage type and the TREX 7.1 search engine.  Though this technology will remain available for the release of SAP Sourcing 7 TCO can be reduced by using the Global search capability of the newly supported Oracle 11 and DB2 9.7 databases.  Should you have the existing KM & TREX infrastructure or not wish to upgrade to a more recent DB version then you still have the option to continue using KM & TREX.

Hi Paul - Thanks for the information. We plan to install Sourcing 7.0 but did not purchase the Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) component. In this scenario would Global Search be available/useable?
      Best Regards - Jeff

The Global search capability should apply to any documents that have been uploaded to the application and are stored in the database.  Providing a user has access to them they will be findable from the search field on the workbench.  This means that docs attached to auctions and RFx's should be searchable in Sourcing.

      Hi Paul,

We are planning to install SAP Sourcing 7. We have Oracle 10G so we cannot use Global Search option.

My understanding is that KM and Trex is just to index searches. What if we decide not to install KM and Trex? Will users still any basic search functionality inside the SAP Sourcing tool? Or without global search and without KM users won't be able to do any type of search?

      Thanks very much in advance.

Hi, first I want to say thanks for your support.

May I know please if standard SAP Sourcing functionality provides searches?

I mean, KM and Global Search are optional components to be installed but can I do standard searches without those components installed?

From the Sourcing 7 Upgrade Guide:

"Instead of KM content search, we recommend using global search to carry out free-text content search on documents and attachments. This simplifies your landscape because global search does not require a TREX server. For information about global search, see SAP Library for SAP Sourcing on SAP Help Portal at SAP Business SuiteSAP SourcingGetting StartedGeneral FunctionsGlobal Search.
Global search supports Microsoft Office Word 2007 documents only on Oracle and higher, not on Oracle
To be available for global search, any new or changed documents and attachments must be indexed. As of SAP Sourcing 7.0 SP01, the Search XML Extract scheduled task and the index refresh are coupled so that the index is refreshed as soon as the Search XML Extract scheduled task is complete. The index refresh is no longer a separate scheduled task. The Search XML Extract scheduled task is set to run once daily, starting around midnight."

      Thanks for the reply.

I know about Global Search and KM/Trex, but my question was different.

My question is simply and I see that the answeer is  complicated 🙂  I need to know, does SAP Sourcing provides standard store and search of documents (without KM or Global Search installed)?

That answeer should be yes or no and I am really confused with the answeer.

Thanks very much again for the help.
