There is a need for small businesses to have easy and intuitive access to SAP systems without the need for consultants. Currently, existing SAP systems require costly and complex configurations processes in order to ensure accurate alignment to an enterprise and its process models. Small businesses do not have the time or the resources to invest in a configuration and alignment activity. Mobile technology could potentially offer a solution to this problem, through component-based mobile applications from online application marketplaces - see image below.

Through the existing SAP store certain applications would be designed to operate in an intelligent manner (either independently or as part of a larger system). This will allow SAP to increase its mobile application presence and could potentially increase its share in the global mobile application space. This could also contribute to the next billion user strategy of SAP.

The innovation lies in the creation of a mobile application framework in which autonomous components can be established to create the functionalities of a comprehensive enterprise information system. This is accomplished by the user through a process-model-based GUI. The framework allows for the existing applications to intelligently determine whether they are operating independently or as part of a whole. The system can also be extended should the need arise – through the same process-model based GUI - see image below.
