SAP Note Viewer v1.2 is now in the app store and ready for download which can be found here:

SAP Note Viewer for iPad v1.2

SAP Note Viewer for iPhone v1.2

A major feature enhancement is the addition of Comments. Users can add and read comments added by other users and brings a social aspect to the notes. Hopefully, users who have experience with a particular note will comment on how useful the note was, possibly what worked or didnt work and any other findings.

Other changes include some minor bug fixes and a quick link to the online note.

As requested by many users, text searching will be a feature of Version 2.0 but is proving to be fairly challenging due to no open API’s to search against. (Anyone listening @SAP?)

    Thanks!

ps: was one of the minor bugs the ability to start the app? I used it a few times and loved it, but then since a few weeks it simply does not start.

I will install the update and try again (using iPhone version).

Thanks again for this cool app and the new comments feature!

    Cheers,
    Julius

I regularly clear all the apps because of the battery contraints…

It does not work to launch the SAP Note Viewer though.

I have not upgraded to iOS4 yet, but high up on the “todo” list now. Is it a pre-requisite?

        Cheers,
        Julius

          Hi Julius,

I believe 4.0 is probably required, what version of the app are you using? v1.0 or v1.1?

Shoot me a PM through SDN on the side and we can try to resolve it.

aha, i was happy to leave a comment on Note #1, but Note #550055 throws an error:
    “Unreleased or Invalid Note”.
i did manage to initialize the comments on Note #1171344 which is fine by me.
if v1.3 (or 3.0) integrates with twitter, Paul will have leveraged the SAP content into the world.

Thanks for the comment on Note #1 greg 🙂

Great idea for the twitter integration, next challenge is the full text search  in v2.0 🙂

If you get a minute, let me know what type of integration with twitter would be most useful and I would be glad tom implement!

i liked what i read about oauth.net, so if your app has api there could be a way to expose its contents. i like the idea of commenting once and making my comment visible across app’s and URL’s (something similar to disqus). SAP may be interested in making sure its content doesn’t get compromised, though.

Well done with this Paul.  I am interested to know …. what service do you use to persist the comments?  Did you code this server side layer from scratch or do you leverage Google services or something else?

Thanks John – this is just a small php script & mySQL DB running in a UIWebView.

Depending on the comment usage I will add a web based UI so users without iOS can also use the comments.

I think being able to comment on SAP Notes is a fantastic idea. Hopefully SAP take notice, I think we all know of a few notes that could benefit from some constructive feedback. Thanks for putting this into your app.

    Cheers,
    Jon
