SAP Education- elearning libraries and knowledge acceleration

By Srini Katta

As an authorized SAP education partner, we’ve found that a large number of existing SAP customers are not aware of the large set of education tools at their disposal.  I’ve found that in our years of consulting experience, often times, enduser and configurator training could help customers optimize their SAP system and ensure a better ROI.  Keeping that in mind, I thought it would be worth writing a quick overview of a couple of the various SAP education options available.  SAP has created several channels of training and education in addition to the traditional Instructor Lead Training (ILT).  This blog will focus on SAP’s E-Learning Libraries and SAP’s Knowledge Acceleration.

To provide a cost effective solution for customers, SAP started learning on demand subscription based e-learning libraries. Seven E-learning libraries are available for subscriptions for SAP customers.  The e-learning libraries provide one of the most flexible learning environments since students can pull course material at any time and learn at their own pace.  A 12 months subscription to the library costs $2000.  Customers have to purchase a minimum of 5 subscriptions.  New courses are added into the existing libraries as they are released so those who have existing subscriptions will still gain access to the new course content.

Application Library: More than 70 titles that cover the entire SAP product line.  This includes, SAP ERP, SAP Supply Chain Management, and SAP Customer Relationship Management applications.  There are also a multitude of industry specific solutions covered.

Technical Library: Just under 50 titles that provides material covering the SAP NetWeaver platform.  This includes the SAP Solution Manager, SAP NetWeaver Process Integration, SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse, and SAP NetWeaver Application Server.  Other coursework includes ABAP, SAP.net Connector Programming, SAP Web Application Server, Web Dynpro, XI Adapter, and Introduction to XML.

Role Based Library: 57 titles focused on transaction driven role based courses.  Courses cover specific roles in sales and distribution, procurement and financial and management accounting.  Such roles include controlling master data, internal order,  product cost,  FI overview, General Ledger, Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payable, Billing Overview,  Financial Master Data, Financial Reports,  Asset Accounting,  Travel Management Overview, MM Overview, etc.

Online Knowledge Product Library: 150 courses dedicated to helping existing SAP partners and customers get trained in new products and new releases of existing products.  These courses are typically provided in advance of the product release so that customers and partners stay ahead of the curve.

Business Intelligence Subscription Library:  Approximately 59 E-learning courses in SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence areas covering Crystal Reports, Crystal Xcelsius, Web Intelligence, OLAP Intelligence, Voyager, Dashboard and  Analytics.  The coursework in this library is designed to train customers to more efficiently analyze their corporate data and better utilize reporting and analysis tools.

BusinessObjects Administration and Data Services Library:  Consists of about 48 e-learning courses that provide training around BusinessObjects Data Quality core concepts, XI data essentials, BusinessObjects Edge series, BusinessObjects Enterprise Administration, Security, Universe Design, etc.  Coursework is designed to help customers create data quality products, new revenue opportunities, and optimize the return on the application investment.  System Architects/Administrators, Data Quality Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, Report Designers, and Endusers is the primary audience of this library.

BusinessObjects Enterprise Performance Management and GRC Library: 13 e-learning courses which include Business Objects Intercompany Operation and Configuration Basics, Profitability and Cost Management, and Business Objects Financial Information Management.  The primary audience for this library is financial information and consolidation management, business planners, cube/analytics designers/developers and architects/administrators.

The second area that could use more attention is SAP’s Knowledge Acceleration (KA).  KA is a pre-built out of box training solution designed for endusers.  It is flexible since it can be deployed on a webserver, LMS or desktop.  We often recommend KA to existing customer who want to ensure that the SAP software they invested in is fully adopted by their endusers.  Since KA requires little support, it is often a cost effective solution for large organizations with large user bases.  KA delivers this enduser training through content, simulations, tests, jobs, aids, etc.
